1859 - Penarth Dock Construction - 'The works in connection with the construction of the Penarth Dock are now assuming the appearance of an energetic enterprise by the contractors, Messrs Smith, Knight and Co., of Great George-street, Westminster. Engines, pumps, etc., have been erected. The chief obstacle which has prevented a larger number of men being employed is now nearly removed -  the cutting at Cogan Pill, which is the outlet for the material, etc., excavated in the construction of the dock. This material will form the embankment over the Moors. A temporary tramway is being laid down across the Moors to the Penarth Harbour Railway.' - Cardiff Times  [019] [361] 17th December 1859.

1860 - Penarth Dock - 'On Wednesday the foundation stone of the new docks at Penarth was laid. On Thursday evening a large slip of earth took place, which did considerable damage.' - Cardiff and Merthyr Guardian . . . [156] [361] 16th June 1860.
