The (Old) Angel Hotel in Castle Street, Cardiff, c.1870

The (Old) Angel Hotel in Castle Street, Cardiff, c.1870, only a few years after Henry Mark Brunel lodged there during his work on the construction of Penarth Dock. His father, Mr. I. K. Brunel had previously stayed there on one occasion and commented ; "the landlord of the inn occupied his leisure moments dying of cholera". If only the (Old) Angel Hotel had WiFi and TripAdvisor had been around in the 19th century! The photograph forms part of the People's Collection of Wales, Casgliad y Werin Cymru but has been colourised. [048]
