Penarth Dock, South Wales - the heritage & legacy . . .
Volume One - Into the Victorian Age - The dock extension of 1883 . . .
c.1900 - A section of the c.1900 O.S. map of the dock. Adjacent to the pumping engine house is an inclined section of dock wall. The hatched rectangular section to the left was probably used for the repair of smaller vessels i.e. those which could be hauled up the incline. The initials M.P. indicate the locations of mooring posts. [010]
1882 - A section of a plan of the Bute Docks, Cardiff dated 1882 showing the extents of Penarth Dock which does not appear to include the extension works. Also indicated are The Patch and Cefn-y-Wrach as well as the Entrance Channel to the Bute Docks complete with buoy locations. On Penarth Head the Penarth Church (250 feet) of St Augustine's. Also note the Penarth Flats ; NOT Cardiff Bay! [001]
