Penarth Dock, South Wales - the heritage & legacy . . .
Volume One - Into the Victorian Age - The dock extension of 1883 . . .
1883 - Penarth Dock Extension Works
1883 - The masonry work of three of the four new tips showing the extent of the excavations and construction necessary for the proper function of the dock. Behind on the escarpment, is a lime kiln and at the upper level, the Royal Hotel on Harbour Street. To the left, is the Wesleyan Methodist Chapel and to the extreme right, St. Joseph's R.C. Chapel. 1883 - Two doers, one smile! It is just so unusual to look back at real 1880's people in so much fine detail and they just come alive when colourised. Some lovely lady's father, son, brother or husband maybe! [007]
