1877 - Penarth Dock Extension - Plan and Sections

1877 - Penarth Dock Extension - Plan and Sections - A selection of the documentation presented to Parliament during the 1878 session for an extension 900 yards long. The plan above is an enlarged section of the main plan. The green outline is the existing 1865 dock and the pale blue represents the proposed extension. The Ely Tidal Harbour would have been swallowed up in the new dock and the tips included within the dock. The advantage so far as the tips of the Tidal Harbour were concerned is that loading ships could be undertaken regardless of time or tide. The plan also necessitated the diversion of the River Ely as outlined in mauve. New roads and railways were planned to serve the dock. Thanks to the Glamorgan Archive for their assistance.
