As a 3D CAD design engineer, I just had to draw your attention to the sheer artistry and skill necessary back in the days when it was all done on a drawing board using a pen and ink ; and as it was during the last year of my apprenticeship at the Penarth Dock Engineering Company Limited. The detail in the compass shown on each drawing is remarkable since it is also the draughtsman signature. I wonder who this fine artist was? I didn't set out to be sexist but it is highly likely that it was a draughtsman given the era ; sorry girls, but in Victorian times it was back to the nappies and the kitchen sink unless, of course, you were a lady!
