"Penarth Docks" is another of the many c.1900 hand coloured postcards for the tourists.
"Penarth Docks" is another of the many c.1900 hand coloured postcards for the tourists. The tidal harbour and river are almost at low water and a ship is being loaded at the tip. Numerous sailing boats are distant in the Penarth Roads. [002]

Penarth Dock - late 1880's
Penarth Dock
Penarth Dock
A photographic negative from the National Museum of Wales, On-line Collections, of 'Penarth Dock in the 1880's.' However, the dock was extended in 1883 and this view is of the extended dock including the coal tips to number 14. I estimate the date of this photograph, therefore, to be the late 1880's. In the enlargements, the Penarth Dock Station, which opened in February 1878, is clear as is the engine shed which was authorised, but not yet built, in March 1886.
