• September 1892 - A Large Sailing Ship in Penarth Dock - "The sailing ship Somati, with a net register tonnage of 3,335 and having a carrying capacity of 5,411 tons, left Penarth Dock for Singapore on Friday night with a cargo of coals shipped by Messrs. Worms, Jesse and Co. This is the vessel's first voyage, she having been towed from Glasgow. She is under the care of Captain Kittey, and is owned by Messrs, Gilbert M. Steeves and Co. of Liverpool. The local agents are Messrs. Charles H. Jones and Co. Bute Docks. the Somati is the largest sailing ship ever owned flying the English flag. A few days ago there was docked at Penarth the steamship Arab, which took away 6,000 tons of coal." Evening Express [135] 10th September 1892.

• October 1892 - Penarth - Accident - "On Monday morning, about five o'clock, Mr. Charles Howard, butcher, of Glebe-street, Penarth, accidentally fell between two railway trucks in crossing the line at Penarth Dock, and fractured his leg. Mr. Howard's injuries were attended to by Dr. C. Aitken, and he was conveyed home." Evening Express [135] 5th October 1892

• October 1892 - Terrible Accident at Penarth - A Sailor Falls Over the Cliff - "On Saturday night a man, named Davritz Mathisen, a Norwegian sailor, belonging to a ship lying in Penarth Dock, went ashore to buy some meat at Penarth. Returning towards the dock, the unfortunate man fell over the cliff, and lay on the beach at the bottom all night. Early on Sunday morning upon a search being made the poor man was found lying helplessly on the ground and quite unconscious. He was picked up and carried on board ship, where he died shortly afterwards of concussion of the brain. Deceased was 34 years of age. An inquest will be held this afternoon." • October 1892 - Bursting of Water Pipes at Penarth - Work Suspended at the Dock - "Great inconvenience and delay was experienced at Penarth Dock this morning by the stoppage of the cranes and tips, in consequence of the inability to work the hydraulic machinery owing to a scarcity of water. Through the bursting of certain pipes at the dock, the whole of the supply of water had to be suspended until the necessary repairs were effected, a work which occupied about an hour." • October 1892 - Fire at Penarth Dock - Three Sheds Destroyed - "A fire of rather unusual character occurred at Penarth Dock on Tuesday afternoon. The locale of the outbreak was the land by the side of the locks and near the entrance to the dock. At this place are situate several wooden sheds, repairing shops, and other buildings of similar construction.
