• April 1893 - Quick Despatch at Penarth Dock - "The steamship Britannia commenced loading at Penarth Dock at six a.m. on Monday, the 3rd inst., and finished at 9.15 a.m., having taken 1,171 tons of cargo and 39 tons of bunkers, making a total of 1,210 tons. Half an hour was occupied in shifting hatches. The net time occupied in loading was two hours and 45 minutes. The work was done from one stationary tip. This despatch, it is believed, has never been surpassed at any dock." Evening Express [135] 5th April 1893.

• April 1893 - The Fatal Accident at Penarth Dock - "The inquest on the body of the sailor Frederick Harris, of the steamship Eastwood, of London, who met his death by falling from a plank when boarding a vessel at Penarth Dock on Saturday night was held at Penarth this morning (before Mr. E. B. Reece, district coroner). - After hearing the evidence the jury returned a verdict to the effect that deceased died from injuries received in a fall." Evening Express [135] 17th April 1893.

• May 1893 - A Damaged Steamer at Penarth - "The British steamer Gogmunding has arrived at Penarth Dock with bow and stern badly damaged and bottom holed. She had been on the rocks at St. Govan's." Evening Express [135] 18th May 1893.

• May 1893 - The Casualty at Penarth Dock - "The statement made this morning with respect to the accident of the steamship Ransifna at Penarth Dock on Saturday is inaccurate. The facts are that on Saturday afternoon, when leaving her berth in the dock to proceed to sea, the steamer had too much way on her (going too fast!) when about to enter the lock, and before she could be stopped damaged the bow with her anchor, which was hoisted close up to the hawse-pipe. The plate being under water the captain was recommended either to stop in the basin or to go onto the East Mud for repairs. He preferred doing the latter, and left the basin on the following tide." • June 1893 - Trade at the Dock - "At Penarth Dock last week activity continued to be displayed at the tips, and the quantity of coal placed on board being nearly 50,000 tons. On Monday a record was effected at this dock, so far as rapid loading in the port of Cardiff is concerned, a ship arriving on the morning tide, and having taken about 1,200 tons on board she left on the same tide."
