Penarth Dock c.1900
This view from 1900 shows the Penarth Dock to be bustling with steamships and others supplemented with sail. The ships on the right, the north quay of the dock, are awaiting their signal to load at the tips on the southern side or being unloaded at the general goods wharfs. Two new tips were installed in 1905 at the northern quay at this end of the dock where the three masted barque and steamship are moored side by side. [000] [002]

Another fine Valentines Series postcard view of the 'The Docks, Penarth' from a similar location as the upper image. In the River Ely the staging of the entrance to the slipway of the Penarth Shipbuilding and Ship Repairing Company may be clearly identified. At number 1 tip a tug is being bunkered. It could be a REA company tug given the distinctive funnel bands. Sail remains a prominent feature of the shipping visiting the dock. A man and a boy are fishing off the end quay wall. Another prized postcard from the Penarth Dock Collection. [001]
