loading coal at Penarth Dock
This is another of the photos dating from around 1908 of the Penarth Dock which was featured within the book '107 Views of Cardiff and District' published by Rock Bros. Limited of London. [328] The ship is moored besides tip number 4 which had been rebuilt by Tannett Walker of Hunslet, Leeds in 1904. [000] [001]

In the lower colourised image, which has been enlarged, the ship remains a mystery since there is no name on her bow but she has a turret-shaped hull. The shute is still lowered suggesting that loading is not yet complete. On the sidings a TVR engine hauls away a train of empties back to the colliery of origin. You can almost hear her chugging away as the steam belches in short spurts of energy as the cylinders exhaust. A much valued image from the Penarth Dock Collection. [000] [001]
