Penarth Dock - c.1904
A lovely hand-coloured postcard image of Penarth Dock and its coal tips posted in January 1907 at Penarth and addressed to Copenhagen, Denmark. In the lower enlargement, I can just make out only part of the name of the ship and it would appear to end with 'Embiricos'. There was a London-Greek ship-owning company named Embiricos. Note the crew on the fo'c'sle at work. The postcard was interestingly published by E. Tutty, Stationer and Tobacconist, Penarth and is from the Penarth Dock Collection. [001]

Penarth Dock - c.1907
I am unable to translate the writing on the postcard. In the early 1990's I spent over six months in Denmark leaning to make pine furniture and following this project-managed a new high volume manufacturing facility in Milshaw, Leeds. I learnt few words of Danish in the entire time I was there. Tak = thank you and målebånd = tape measure, oh, and then there was øl venligst = more beer! There was also a Hancock's brewery in the town of Skive but it definitely wasn't the same beer as the Cardiff Hancocks! [001]
