Penarth Dock, South Wales - the heritage & legacy . . .

Volume Two - The Era of Optimism, Investment & Development - The gridiron and slipway . . .

The remains of the gridiron in the River Ely - 1970's
1970's - I believe this could be the partial remains of the gridiron situated in the tidal river Ely taken in the 1970's. Your assistance or correction is welcome here. [000] [002]

1984 - A photograph from the Mary Gillam Archive Project taken in May 1984 at the mouth of the River Ely. The 'old wharf' she describes was also probably part of the gridiron or wharfage associated with the Penarth Ship Building and Shiprepairing Company and is adjacent to the slipway.

Another of the photographs from the archive of the amazing late Dr. Mary Gillham M.B.E. [048] [634] [635] [20180218] Many thanks to Alan Reeve at the South East Wales Biodiversity Records Centre (SEWBReC) - - for permission to use this image on the Penarth Dock website.
