Penarth Dock - I am able to date this postcard photograph to 1899 or early 1900.
Penarth Dock - I am able to date this postcard photograph to 1899 or early 1900.
Penarth Docks - I am able to date this postcard photograph to 1899 or early 1900 since there are only two of the four Fielding & Platt of Gloucester coal tips in place at the northern quay of the basin. Full coal trucks belonging to Philip Carl & Company of Cardiff await on the high level road whilst empties of Naylor's Navigation 'NN' and Rees & Company await return to their respective collieries. Nearest is No. 7 tip of the original 1865 format. Centre is No. 6 tip. The original was replaced in 1893 by the Armstrong tip complete with its adjacent hydraulic accumulator. No. 5 tip is also of the original 1865 format. A postcard held within the Penarth Dock Collection complete with a colourised version. [001] [20191217]
