Penarth Dock c.1907
A postcard view with colourised enlargement, taken in the first decade of the 20th century but after 1905, looking toward the northern quays where ships await loading with coal at the tips or are being unloaded of their imported cargoes or solid ballast. Two new fixed steel coal tips (seen in the distance) were installed on the south side of the dock, numbers 8 and 13, built by Messrs. Tannett, Walker & Co. of Leeds, installed in 1905-06, which may be seen in the distance. These new tips appear in a photograph, together with a detailed description, within the 1908 South Wales Coal Annual, hence the date is probably around 1907. The coal tip nearest is number 2 which replaced the 1865 wooden tip with an Armstrong & Co. steel, fixed tip which was installed in 1893. [001]
