Penarth Dock, South Wales - the heritage & legacy . . .
Volume Two - The Era of Optimism, Investment & Development - Penarth's contribution to coal exports . . .
The sidings at Llandough are busy in 1907 with shunting engines sorting the trucks in order for tipping and returning the empty trucks back to the correct colliery. A skilled job which requires good organisational skills and for the shunters, especially those who went between the trucks to couple and uncouple the trucks, life could be dangerous. I recall my brother Clive being traumatised when at work one day he witnessed a shunter being crushed between railway carriages. He died later in hospital from his injuries. [002]
