Volume Two - The Era of Optimism, Investment & Development - Penarth's contribution to coal exports . . . The Blaengwawr Merthyr Steam Coal possesses all the elements which render Fuel most useful, economical, and valuable for steamers, particularly those destined for long voyages :— • The power to generate and evolve great heat, with brilliant and intensely hot flames, and hence maintain a high and uniform pressure of steam; The subscriber could enumerate many other advantages resulting from its use, but would beg again to refer to the written testimonials of those who have tested the Coal, and are entirely disinterested, and is fully assured that if a trial of the Coal is once made, further commendation of it by the proprietors, or the sub scriber, will be unnecessary to ensure its continued use. The proprietors pledge themselves to omit nothing that will insure the proper working or screening the Goals, and should be most happy to receive orders from steamship proprietors, or others requiring Coals. Coal is shipped from Cardiff to all parts of' the Pacific Ocean, and the East and West Indies, &c. Norm—Particular attention is called to the report of Erastus W. Smith, Chief Engineer of the Ocean Steam Navigation Company, and late Engineer in Chief of the Collins Line, of U. S. Mail Steamships." I may look more closely at the report of Erastus W. Smith when I'm bored or I experience utter despair! Until then, I'll continue the Penarth story. |
