The Flensburg floating dock of 1892 which was 282' - 0" (86 m) long and had a lifting power of 2,600 tons. This was built as an off-shore dock in two halves; you can identify the booms. The self-docking feature is also demonstrated, where one half of the dock is detached and lifted onto the other for maintenance below the waterline.

Flensburg is in Germany at the border with Denmark. It was a shipbuilding town and became an important 'U' boat base later. I was a regular visitor there, when in a previous life, I represented a manufacturer of large saw plants for the woodworking industry which was situated just outside the town. Flensburger Pils, in the old fashioned flip-top, bottles is an exceptionally palatable local beer! The saw plants, however, I can't recommend!! [020]
