This chapter should have been chronologically placed much earlier in this volume since it is the Act of Parliament which provided permission for the Penarth Pontoon to exist and defined the mechanism for its funding and the framework for its use. [001] [297] It is heavy going reading but I found the effort worthwhile. WHEREAS the Taff Vale Railway Company (in this Act called "the Company") are in pursuance of powers conferred by the Penarth Harbour Dock and Railway Leasing Act 1863 the lessees for a term of nine hundred and ninety-nine years of the undertaking of the Penarth Harbour Dock and Railway Company (in this Act called "the Penarth Company") comprising the Ely Tidal Harbour and Penarth Dock and certain railways and other works and conveniences connected therewith : And whereas there is no sufficient accommodation in connexion with the said undertaking for the repair of steam and other vessels and it is expedient that provision should be made as contained in this Act with reference thereto : |
