Volume Three - The Pontoon Era - The Taff Vale Railway Act, 1908 . . .

I found the foregoing quite fascinating as it confirms many of the newspaper reports and indeed Mr. A. H. Weeks history of the company in which he states:

'In 1907 arrangements were entered into between the Taff Vale Railway and the Company to provide additional shiprepairing facilities at Penarth by constructing a pontoon and a Parliamentary Bill was passed to this effect on 1st August, 1908.

In December, 1908, the name of the Company was changed to the Penarth Pontoon, Slipway & Shiprepairing Co. Ltd. In that year the Pontoon was built by Messrs. Swan Hunter & Wigham Richardson in six months.'
