The c.1920 image (with colourised version below) is taken from the eastern end of the main dock showing ships being loaded with coal but I suspect that some were laid up in the dock as the World economy slowed. The effects of the Great War of 1914 to 1918 were still being felt throughout industry and there was unrest in the labour markets in the manufacturing industries. [025][079]
