Mines au Pays de Galles - loosely translated states:-

'Mines in Wales. Britain was the first industrial country in the world. Its industry has enjoyed an abundant source of energy that made his fortune coal. Although its production place 4th in the world, its mineral resources are depleted. The principal sources are: Yorkshire, Northumberland, Durham, Lancashire, the Midlands and Wales.'

A 1969 French Chromo image from the Penarth Dock Collection which I felt somehow belonged to an earlier era when the export of coal from Penarth Dock was in steep decline and the dock finally closed forever. France was an important market for the export of coal from Penarth Dock. [001]
