On the second plinth we see the now renumbered No 2 coal tip (the GWR referred to them as 'Coal Hoists') which was erected in 1927, had a maximum capacity of 30 tons and was supplied to the GWR by the Hydraulic Engineering Company of Charles Street, Chester. It was still in place in 1942 according to the GWR Coal Shipping Appliances Drawing of 1942. Tip number 4 was removed by 1934 according to the track layout drawings. Note the trumpet bell shape of the entrance pier and jetty to the sea lock. This photograph can therefore be dated as having been taken between the years 1927 and 1934. [000] [002]
