The red arrow indicates the location of the Carder family home in Coveny Street and its proximity to potential Luftwaffe targets. The location was a little too close for comfort and neither of my elder brothers was evacuated during the war to safer locations. Due to a combination of the stress of living and working in the shadow of such a strategically important steel works, the docks and other local key industrial plants, the health of our father had deteriorated significantly by 1950, hence, the decision to move the entire Carder family to the rural village of Dinas Powys, about five miles to the west, and well outside the borough of Cardiff at the time, for a new life in the countryside during Spring 1952.
