Penarth Dock, South Wales - the heritage & legacy . . .
Volume Four - An Era of Change, Uncertainty, Depression & War - The Penarth Dock Engineering Company Limited . . .
Two c.1961 photos of the main machine shop showing the diversity of the work undertaken at the works. The upper image is of a centrifugal pump which has been renovated by fitting new bearings and re-grinding the shafts. The lower image is, perhaps, of some sort of turn-table mechanism. I'm not too sure what it is but could it be the centre of a turntable for steam engines? Steam had died for passenger trains by 1961 but went on for a few years more shunting in the sidings. Any other suggestions for this one please? The lower image has been colourised. [114]
