June 2008 - The Penarth Times - 'I Remember That' - Penarth Dock Engineers. - A photograph of the staff of the Penarth Dock Engineering Company Limited dating from c.1977. This was about seven years after I had completed my apprenticeship by which time Julie and myself were living in Yorkshire. Many thanks to Judith, my sister-in-law, for finding these news cuttings for me to add to the website. - Penarth Times [101] 19th June 2008.

I remember that . . .

Who remembers Penarth Dock Engineering on the Dock site, Cogan end, where the Tesco store now stands?

It was a hive of industry in the 1970's when it took over from the Pontoon after it was 'sunk' into Penarth Dock.

The photograph, taken circa 1977, was kindly given to me by Andrew Kennedy who is in the picture, along with a host of employees.

Could you bear with me as I name them?

They include John Warburton, Mike Draby, Basil Roberts, Glen?, Roy Wiggins, Ted Barry, Paddy?, Stuart?, Brian?,

Jimmy Evans, Tony?, Colin Davies, Graham David, Nick?, Ruth Wilson, Tony Eley, Andrew Kennedy, Mr. McKenzie MD, Diane?, Rob Crompton, Phillip Lofthouse, Stephen Bennett, James 'Buster' Angrove, Vince?, Viv Messeur, Peter Spear, Wilf?, Derek Jackson, Frank Draby, Larry Falcon, Mike Summers, Sid?

Now if you haven't been named, please write to Your Letters, as others will be pleased to hear from you.

In these days of acute shortage of skilled workers, it is a shame that these industries are no longer about.
