c.1980's (prior to October 1986) - The apprentice shop at the former Penarth Dock Engineering Company Limited works now devoid of all machines and benches. The lower of each image has been colourised.
In the upper image we see the office that once was occupied by Mr. Ted Smith, the apprentice instructor, remains and there was a small storeroom beyond. In the next bay, down a short ramp, was the former machine shop with a roller shutter door between.
The lower image is a view up the shop to the tapered end. The lower part of a chimney is visible at the end of the shop. I find these to be extremely sad photos since scores of engineering apprentices spent their first year in this shop learning the basics of fitting and machine tool practice ; a facility lost forever and a engineering heritage lost.
The original photographa are held at the archive of the National Museum of Wales and forms part of a series of 31 photos of engineering workshops at Penarth and Barry Docks. [Museum item number : 87.202I/9 & 16] [629] [20180327]
