upper image - 1970's? - The machine shop looking upwards towards the roller shutter door of the apprentice shop. In this medium machine shop were mostly manual centre-lathes with a fitting area on the opposite side of the shed.

lower image - 1970's? - The same machine shop looking in the opposite direction. A Parkinson horizontal milling machine has been introduced. I recall that there were four or five other lathes on the right hand side of the shop when I worked there in the mid to late 1960's. The lower image has been colourised.

The original photographs are held at the archive of the National Museum of Wales and form part of a series of 31 photos of engineering workshops at Penarth and Barry Docks. [Museum item number : 87.202I/26 & 24] [629] [20180328]
