Penarth Dock - the engineering work and location of the pontoon.

A late 1960’s view up towards the western end of the dock with the offices of Penarth Dock Engineering Co. Ltd. complete with clock tower. The lower image has been colourised.

The pontoon berth is the top right hand side of the dock. Engineering swarf and works waste was dumped unceremoniously into the dock, hence the apparent rubbish tip, mostly by a labourer with a handlebar moustache and extreme body odour!

Note also the vertical indents in the quayside indicating the former site of the pontoon. The eight radial boom arrangements secured at the quayside permitted the pontoon to rise and fall in the water and to permit these arms to clear the dock wall. [069]
