Penarth Dock - 1976
Penarth Dock - 1976
A view from 1976 kindly provided by Penarth Framing Services [113] and taken from the top of the escarpment (nearby the Billy Banks) over the main dock. New industrial units have been built but the dock is gradually being filled-in with uncontrolled waste. The entrance to the basin is blocked off with a bund so the route to the sea is blocked. The Mission's to Seamen has been demolished and the subway entrance building is no longer visible. The lower image has been colourised.

Penarth Dock and Basin - 1970's
The Penarth Dock and Basin in the 1970's looking across to the GKN works and Cardiff Docks. The subway toll house and the Missions to Seamen building have been demolished. A roadway divides the dock and basin which is used only for mooring pleasure craft. [000] [002]

A view of the Penarth Dock dating from the mid-1970's.
A view of the Penarth Dock dating from the early to mid-1970's probably 1974. The dam across the dock is clear in the distance and beyond high netting is suspended across the upper reaches of the dock as tipping of raw household waste proceeds. The buildings of the Penarth Dock Engineering Company are still visible beyond. The extent of unauthorised tipping is clear along the north quay wall and shrubs thrive. Three of the original dock buildings remain and a small industrial estate has evolved. On the skyline, the tower and chimney of Llandough Hospital and left, the Billy Banks are still occupied.
