An aerial view taken on the 5th October 1983 showing the extent of the uncontrolled tipping to the eastern side of the dam. In the foreground is the River Ely with the remains of the slipway and gridiron. Many thanks to Penarth Framing Services [113] for the use of this image. The lower has been colourised.

The lower image, also kindly provided by Penarth Framing Services [113] shows another aerial view from the same date looking out toward the Severn Sea with the "trumpet bell" shaped entry to the sea lock. The dam is bottom left and there is a bund across the locks between the basin, complete with roadway. The Billy Banks development is on the edge of the escarpment and below, the old sidings are now obliterated by trees and foliage.
