Penarth Dock, South Wales - 150 years - the heritage and legacy
Penarth Dock, South Wales - the heritage & legacy . . .

Volume Five - The Age of Decline & Crass Stupidity - Draining the dock - then oops! . . .

1986 - Penarth Dock Engineering Co. Ltd. works
An aerial view taken on the 19th October 1986 with, top right, a new roundabout on Penarth Road before the flyover was built. I suspect that every driver in Penarth would love it to be reinstated and priority given to Penarth traffic! A new road system has been built to the docks in readiness for its development. And the works of the Penarth Dock Engineering Co. Ltd. have been diminished. The apprentice school has been demolished - I'm sad now! [113]

The lower image, from another angle on the same flight, shows the engineering works, the drawing office on stilts over the river and Price Bros. Joinery. The railways to Barry and Penarth are also clear. If you follow the bank of the River Ely, you will see a change in its nature starting at the drawing office and finishing at the building to the left. This was the entrance to the Cogan Pill. Most of the land that Price Bros. is situated upon and the road leading to Cogan station was an inlet which extended into the Cogan recreation fields. If you turn off Windsor Road into Cogan at the Station Hotel, you enter Pill Street, and to the left, Dock Street and the the right, Little Dock Street. I'll show more about the extent of the Pill later. [113]
