1970 - Paget Road, Penarth across to Butetown, Cardiff.
A 1970's view from Paget Road across to Butetown distant - in the 1915 OS map this was named Dock Road. On the left in the mid distance are the remains of the Windsor Slipway and Graving Dock. The headland, the northern side of the river Ely is the Grange Point and the subway entrance building is just visible. The embankment on the southern side of the river Ely was built up for the development of the slipway and gridiron which is situated just to the left out of view. [146]

Esso oil terminal on the northern bank of the Ely Tidal Harbour.
The illumination of the Esso oil terminal on the northern bank of the Ely Tidal Harbour complete with a coastal tanker. Originally opened in 1889 as the Victoria Petroleum Works it changed hands and became under the ownership of Russian Oil Products. Subsequently, it became the Regent Oil Company between the years 1933 and 1962 and finally passed to Esso Petroleum in 1965. The facility closed in September 1985 when Avonmouth became the distribution centre. Many thanks to Matt for these images. [146]
