1888 - After the fire - The remains of the Victoria Wharf jetty under which the fire is alleged to have been ignited : -

'One eye-witness states that early in the outbreak be saw burning masses of material, probably esparto grass, thrown into the air by a series of small explosions, and these would maternally aid in spreading the conflagration.' - Cardiff Times [019] [361] 22nd September 1888.
