I just adore this photograph by David Lloyd of the not so 'Lucky Lady' in her somewhat distressed state complete with a colourised version. Lack of care, old age, a few frosty winter mornings and more than one River Ely spring tide have been her undoing! Ralph Waldo Emerson said of Lady Luck : 'Shallow men believe in luck . . . strong men believe in cause and effect.' Whilst, as an engineer, I am forced through logic and experience to confer, outside of working hours, I do prefer the picture created by Phyllis Martin : 'Luck is looking for a needle in a haystack and coming out with the farmer's daughter' !!
