Volume Six - Pre-Victorian to the Present Day - Select Aspects - Working the Ely Tidal Harbour . . . 1859 - 'At the Ely Tidal Harbour several vessels are now loading, including two or three screw steamers, one of which, the 'Isabella Crol', belonging to T. Powell, Esq., in leaving the harbour got on a patch of ground and remained nearly two days. A fine wind prevailed at the time, which was very annoying to the owner. The vessel was in charge of a licensed pilot, who, it appears, is blamed for the mishap. A report was sent to the Corporation of Bristol, who no doubt will cause a strict inquiry to be made whether the pilot is to blame or not. This shows the necessity of having a Board appointed at Cardiff to adjudicate in such cases without sending to Bristol.' - Cardiff Times - 29th October 1859 [019]
