By November 1907 Messrs. Ingledrew & Sons, Solicitors and Notaries of 57, Mount Square, Cardiff acting on behalf of the TVR had been instructed to resolve the somewhat outstanding matter. They wrote to L. G. Williams Esq. the Secretary of the Penarth Co. on the 25th November 1907 and in a conciliatory letter, [142] tact and common sense seemed to have returned since it was felt that the matter "ought not to be treated as of a controversial character."

Penarth Harbour Dock & Railway Company

On the 31st December Ingledrew wrote to L. G. Williams and declared "we are again at deadlock" but only a few days later proposed the 1880's solution, i.e. that the parties should split the proceeds equally after costs are deducted "in view of the difficulty of ascertaining at this distance of time exactly what the legal rights in the matter are."

By the 5th February 1908 the Penarth Co. wrote back to to the TVR stating "This matter was considered at the Board meeting held yesterday when I was instructed to say that the Directors confirmed the formal suggestion, without prejudice, that the amount (which, with the interest to the 31st December last, amounted to £201: 18 :1d) be divided equally between the two Companies, each to pay its own costs."

On the 12th February 1908, Ingledrew & Sons acting for the TVR wrote to Mr. L. G. Williams of the Penarth Co. "This matter came before our Clients at their Board meeting yesterday when we were instructed to inform you that the Taff Vale Company agree to the amount of deposit including interest shall be divided between our respective Companies."

Subsequently, cheques were made out and signed by the Chairmen of each company, however, there was a delay when the final amounts were incorrectly calculated but the 40 year dispute was finally put to bed by early March 1908! Many thanks to the National Archives for access to the 64 pages of documentation associated with this dispute. [142]
