Cement Concrete Foundation

The Cement is to be of best Portland of British manufacture, in every way suitable for use in engineering works of the heaviest character, and must comply with the British Standard Specification for Portland Cement.

The Contractor is to provide a suitable shed near the site of the works for the storage of the cement ; this must be perfectly watertight, and have a wooden floor raised off the ground, and bins are to be constructed in which the cement is to be stored to a depth not exceeding five feet. The cement must be delivered on the works in such quantities as to allow sufficient time for testing, and must not be used until it has been approved by the Engineer or his Assistant.

The sand used upon these works shall be sharp and clean, and shall if necessary be washed before being mixed with the cement.

All stone used for mixing with the cement shall be of approved hardness and quality, and no stone specified as broken stone shall be used which will not by its longest dimension pass through a ring 1½in. in diameter.

200 cubic yards @ 30/0 = £300 0s. 0d. - Cement Concrete (4 to 1) composed of one part cement, two parts sand and two parts of broken stone in the foundations of the wall, to be laid under water by divers, to levels shown on Contract Drawings. This concrete shall be mixed dry, and then lowered in buckets or boxes to position it has to occupy ; it must not be allowed to fall through the water.

Care must be taken to bring the top surface to an even level. The Contractor must provide any shuttering required to keep the concrete in position.
