The tender document accepted by the Board of the TVR on the 26th March 1909 and is held at the National Archives [142] in London.

Closer examination of the image already used, dated the 28th June 1909, and is shown in the book, the "Taff Vale Railway Miscellany" [030] by John Hutton, reveals a barge complete with crane and large blocks as counterbalance weights, situated at the western end of the dock, an inclined quay, a slipway, above which is another crane.

Mr. Hutton states that the image shows the "launching of the Pontoon" but I suggest that this large board on the slipway was used for lowering the concrete blocks from the upper area where they had been made, down the slipway rails to the water level, where the barge would lift off the blocks, one at a time, and position them in the wall. Does anyone have any further information to add to this story of this amazing civil engineering feat?
