Penarth Dock, South Wales - 150 years - the heritage and legacy
Penarth Dock, South Wales - the heritage & legacy . . .

Volume Six - Pre-Victorian to the Present Day - Select Aspects - The Pumping Engine House . . .

The entry within the W. H. Allen, Son & Company Order Book :

'Dec 6th 1889 - Order 1313 - Taff Vale Railway - Cardiff - Penarth Dock - Geo. Fisher - £2350 - per Midland Railway via Western Line? - try price? - May 31st.' (possibly the date of delivery or desptach).

The corresponding entry for the order with a brief specification :

'Two M40 Centrifugal Pumping Engines - 22 + 22 with Expansion Valve. Quite complete - All as per specification - Two 40" sluice valves - delivered - right and left hand'.

I am not sure if the entry is also included within the order. Perhaps 'One M5 pump side suction double standard' was a boiler feed pump or similar?

Many thanks to Mr. Philip Mann, the Heritage Officer of the W. H. Allen Engineering Association [710] for his assistance in this research and for Bedford Archives where the document is held. [Bedford Archives Document Ref: ??] [711] [20190626]
