' . . . painted chocolate colour with black lines picked out with vermillion edging. Brass caps were fitted to the chimneys, the safety valves columns were of polished gun metal, and the number plates had brass figures on a red background. Subsequently all the engines were finished black, with pale yellow, white and vermillion lines and the coat of arms of the company was transferred to the cab sides.'
