1927 - Presentation to Mr. Wright, Penarth Dock Station - There was an interesting event at Penarth Dock Station on February 25th, 1927, Mr. G. E. Howell presiding when Mr. T. Wright was presented with a wallet of notes on the occasion of his retirement after nearly fifty-three years' service under the late Taff Vale Railway and Great Western Railway Companies - twenty-four years as chief clerk at Penarth Dock Station. Prior to coming to Penarth Dock Station, Mr. Wright was stationmaster at Ferndale, but relinquished this position owing to ill-health. Mr. P. A. Collins, District Goods Manager, made the presentation.
Other gentlemen present were : Mr. R. H. Blackwell, assistant to the D.G.M. ; Mr. E. C. Edwards, Dock Superintendent ; Mr. C. H. Jolliffe, the first stationmaster at Penarth Dock, who, through ill-health, was forced to retire in 1903 ; Mr. F. A. Luen, his successor, who retired in 1923 ; and others.
Mr. Collins, in making the presentation, said it gave him great pleasure to be present to give Mr. Wright a token of appreciation from his colleagues and friends, and hoped that Mr. Wright would live long and enjoy his retirement. Mr. R. H. Blackwell, said he hoped that he (himself ) would be as hale and hearty as Messrs. Jolliffe, Luen and Wright when he retired.
Messrs. Jolliffe and Luen gave very interesting reminiscences of the growth of the railways, and extended their best wishes to Mr. Wright upon his retirement. Mr. E. C. Edwards remarked that the relations between the Docks Department and Mr. Wright were very cordial.
Mr. Wright has received a cheque for £10, Retirement Grant from the R.C.A., and we wish him every happiness in his retirement. - The Railway service Journal Vol. XXIV [1331] [499] April 1927. |
