Thames Iron Works - The company was reported as contractors to 'A Clever Piece of Engineering' i.e. the replacement of lock gates at Penarth Dock during 1898. In that same year there was a tragedy at the yard during the launch of the H.M.S. Albion when 34 people were killed and many injured. The company operated during the period 1837 to 1912 building many battleships including the world's first all-iron warship, H.M.S. Warrior, launched in 1860.
