'With Penarth Dock at the bottom of the hill, there were many Sunday afternoon visits to ships and submarines there. The girls would stream up the gang plank and down the hatches. When the Pamir and Passat sailing ships were hauled up in Penarth Dock in 1949, the GNTC took the opportunity to visit them, as well as a Navy ship. They met the second officer of the Passat, who was from Finland. Muriel Hurley climbed up the mast rigging!' An extract from the short history of the GNTC at Penarth by Bruce Wallace. [367]
