Penarth Dock, South Wales - the heritage & legacy . . .

Volume Eight - Pre-Victorian to the present day - more aspects - Pamir and Passat - the end of an era . . .

1950 - The tug 'Loyal Briton' (which was used in berthing 'Passat') in the lock between the Penarth Dock basin and main dock and opposite the swing bridge. The vessel already at her moorings is the 'Pamir' which is unladen suggesting that this photograph was taken after the vessels were unloaded of their cargoes of grain and not at their arrival in October 1949. My best guess, therefore, is that this photograph was taken during mid-April or perhaps May 1950.

The original glass negative of this photograph is held at the archives of the National Museum of Wales. The enlargement has been colourised. [Museum item number : 1996.96/425] [629] [20180415]
