The voyage of the 'Pamir' laden with grain commenced from Port Victoria in southern Australia departing 28th May, then passing south of New Zealand and across the South Pacific Ocean, around the infamous Cape Horn, then turning north at the Atlantic Ocean, passing the Azores and making for Falmouth, arriving on 2nd October. A journey of 16,000 miles under wind power alone. The map is borrowed from 'The Last Time Around Cape Horn' the personal account of ordinary seaman William F. Stark. [335] |
