A copy account from T. T. Pascoe Limited at Cardiff relating to supplies to 'Pamir' addressed to Captain Bjorkfelt for January and February 1950. The items are interesting especially Penarth Urban District Council's charges for refuse collection 10s-0p (50p). The total is not an insignificant sum for the early 1950's. For those of you who do not know to how to add the columns of pre-decimal money (pre 15th February 1973). The columns left to right are pounds(£), shillings (s) and pence (d). Start in the right hand column and consider that there are 12 pence for every shilling and then twenty shillings for each pound. Now consider that most people could add up all three columns simultaneously. Easy eh?! A historical document kindly provided by the archive staff of the Ålands sjöfartsmuseum of Finland. [001] [343] |
