The 'Lady Ismay' of P. & A. Campbell's White Funnel Fleet plying the River Avon in 1911. Built at the Ailsa Ship Building Co. at Troon and launched earlier that year, she was of 495 gross, 199 net tons, 220 feet long x 26'-1" breadth and 8'-9" depth. This pretty lady was sadly mined off the Longsand Light Vessel on the 12th December 1915 and lost with the lives of 18 crew. Only those on deck survived as she sank so quickly that the survivors stepped off the deck into the lifeboats and were picked up by p.s. 'Glen Avon'. [154]

p.s. 'Lady Ismay' probably off Penarth Head since this a photograph published by George Wehrley of 97 Glebe Street, Penarth. She was in service with Campbell's during the period 1911 to 1915 when she was lost. George Wehrley, however, went to war in the trenches in 1914 and died in action during late December 1916. The vessel was requisitioned by the Royal Navy in 1914 and fitted out as a minesweeper. This photograph, therefore, dates from between 1911 and 1914 since she is seen here in P. & A. Campbell livery.
