Penarth Esplanade
A Valentines Series postcard sent to Miss Eaton at Madeira Villa in Stroud from an address in Grove Place, Penarth during April 1910. The fine facade and veranda of Beachcliff built in 1904 complete with ornate towers at each end. At the far end was a private hotel but on the ground floor was, at least in the 1960's, Mr. Rabiottis cafeteria. There he sold delicious ice creams and as child I called there often on those warm summer days. Julie, and her sadly missed father, used to have their breakfast toast and tea there every morning before she started her day at the Penarth Dock Engineering Company. [001]

Penarth Esplanade
A 'Haddon Series' card from an earlier date (c.1900) since Beachcliff is not yet to be seen. On the left we have the yacht club which still adorns the esplanade to this day. This was built in 1884 and enlarged through to 1905. Distant is the pier with its original entrance building, then beyond, the prominent Penarth headland. Another fine postcard from the Penarth Dock Collection. [001]
