Cadoxton School, Barry
Cadoxton School, Barry
'Cadoxton School', Barry from 107 Views of Cardiff and District taken around the turn of the 20th century. Having failed my 11+ Exams at Dinas Powys Primary School, I was 'educated' at the school. The view from the artwork classroom situated on the top floor of the school gave a wonderful panoramic view over the number two dock, the Atlantic Mills with the Bristol Channel beyond. The lower image has been colourised. [001]

Victoria Prak, Cadoxton, Barry
The view of the Victoria Park, Cadoxton, Barry out of the window at the rear of the school. This was a classroom used for English lessons as I recall. I remember on one occasion being the first to make the run up the stairs only for one of my mates to lean over me and bang of the door of the classroom. I was now unable to move since everyone else had caught up and pinned me against the door. The door opened 'Come in Carder' and the teacher invited me to bend over whilst he titillated my posterior with a few strokes of his cane! [001]

Barry No 2 Dock
The proximity of the number two dock may be seen from this photo dating from the 1960's of a dredger moored in the dock. The Cadoxton school was situated high on a rocky promontory and could be seen from miles around in all directions. Hence, the school song began, 'Out in the open, clear to the skies, Standing commanding, in everyone's eyes' - words and music written by Mr. Peter Rees, the music master, who lived in Dinas Powis and was a good mentor and a great inspiration to me in the development of my musical expertise. Another fine photograph from the Penarth Dock Collection. [001]
